About — Joe Simon
My photography leans toward black and white, a habit shaped by many years spent shooting exclusively on film. I still tend to compose with that mindset, drawn more to form, contrast, and the essential idea of an image than to the subtlety of color, which appears only when it serves the structure of an image.
Most of my work revolves around people absorbed in their own routines—working, talking, walking, simply existing in their spaces—and I prefer to observe quietly rather than intervene. Although I now shoot digitally, my approach remains rooted in the discipline and restraint of the analog years, and that sensibility informs both my technique and the character of my images. My style gravitates toward those unscripted moments where daily life reveals itself without performance or preparation.
